Preparing your skin will help your makeup lay smooth and help extend the wear.
The night before your appointment, be sure to gently exfoliate and moisturize your skin. On the day of your appointment, I recommend double cleansing your face, especially around your eye area.
Come to your makeup appointment rested and drink lots of water beforehand. Filling your skin cells with water for 24 hours before photos will plump and hydrate those cells, reducing wrinkles. A good night’s sleep always helps with those under eye areas, which get darker when we’re tired and dehydrated.
Take care of your usual grooming beforehand, such moisturizing and trimming your eyebrows or other stray hairs, since that won’t be part of the makeup session. For men, shaving and grooming nose and ear hair is also something you don’t want to forget!
Your skin is very delicate, especially after it has gone through a treatment of some sort. It is important to note that you should not schedule any intense skincare appointments too close to your makeup appointment. These treatments include waxing, spray tans, laser treatments, and microdermabrasion. Otherwise, they run the risk of an unpleasant makeup appointment. Any skin procedures like facials, peels, treatments, or cosmetic procedures should be done at least 2 weeks before your appointment.
We recommend wearing something that is easy to remove without touching your face and/or hair. A button up shirt or a strapless/off the shoulder top is best. This also allows us to apply makeup down your neck and chest if needed.
We encourage our clients to bring inspiration pictures to help us understand what your makeup comfort levels are. (A great place to find these is Pinterest!) Please keep in mind that a lot of the makeup inspiration pictures on the internet have been edited and retouched. Your face features are uniquely yours, and you should be proud of that! If you decide to look for inspiration pictures, try looking for people with similar facial features. For hair styles, look for styles with hair color and density similar to yours! You can search “updo for fine brown hair” or “half up half down long hair romantic” to get a ton of options that suit your hair type and style!
Be sure to buy a waterproof makeup remover to help remove your makeup at the end of the night. One of our favorites is Neutrogena makeup remover wipes. Gently remove your makeup by using the makeup towelette over your eyes. This will remove eye makeup and loosen your false lashes. They should come off with an easy pull. After this, we recommend double cleansing your face and eye area to remove the rest of your makeup, followed by your normal skincare routine.
